How To Fix A Dishwasher Troubleshooting:

Here you will find some dishwasher troubleshooting. We are going to narrow down the possibilities of your dishwashers problem in order to diagnose it:

Find any dishwasher parts here  

We will cover this:

-If your dishes are dirty.

-If your door does not close properly.

-If the detergent cup inside does not open.

-If the motor of the dishwasher is humming, but it doesn't want to start.

-If the machine drains while filling, or does not fill with water at all.

-If the water does not drain at all.

-If around the door water, or soap are leaking.

-If water is draining through the air gap into the sink.

-If your machine is noisy.

-If your machine is leaking water.

-If dishwasher does not work - seems to be totally powered down.

If your dishes are dirty.

  • Is the the detergent cup opening?
  • Clean the fine particle filter   
  • Clean the spray arms and spray tower
  • Do a water temperature
  • Check the inlet filter screens are they clogged?
  • Is there enough water pressure?
  • Test the water inlet valve for clogs. 
  • Make sure the water level is adequate 

If your door does not close properly.

Check:

  • Check that your dishes are not obstructing anything  
  • Look at the door seal gasket that is is not caked with detergent of food, and that it is not broken
  • Check the door latch to see if it is blocked

If the detergent cup inside does not open.

Check:

  • Do timer motor test 
  • You should test the bimetal assembly 
  • Check out the actuator arm
  • Look and see if the detergent cup is blocked

If the motor of the dishwasher is humming but it doesn't want to start.

Check:
 
  • Test the motor start relay
  • The pump might be jammed
  • Test the motor  
  • The motor might be jammed. 
  • Check out the drive belt

If the machine drains while filling, or does not fill with water at all.

Check:

  • Do a door switch test 
  • Check the float assembly
  • Inspect the drain valve lever arm it might be broken
  • Check the drain valve  
  • Look at the fill tube for kinks
  • Inspect the float switch 
  • Inspect the inlet valve filter screens for blockage 
  • Test the water inlet valve for blockage
  • Make sure the water supply is turned on. The valve is normally found under the sink.
  • Take a close look at the door latch

If the water does not drain at all.

Check:

  • Inspect the drain valve 
  • Check sink drain and drain hose for blockages  
  • Inspect the drive belt
  • You might have to un-jam the motor
  • You might have to un-jam the pump

If around the door water or soap are leaking.

Check:

  • Inspect the door latch 
  • If you are using liquid dish soap only use a very small amount of it, jut make certain that your detergent is intended for dishwashers. 
  • Look to see if the spray arms are damaged
  • Check the door seal gasket that it is intact

If your machine is noisy.

Check:

  • Check the water inlet valve for dirt
  • Inspect the motor and mounts
  • Inspect the inlet filter screens for dirt
  • Inspect the fan motor and blade
  • Inspect the spray arms for any damage and obstructions
  • Inspect the drain for obstructions

    If your machine is leaking water.

    Check:
    • Inspect the water inlet valve for clogs 
    • Check the pump that it still pumps 
    • Is there overfilling?
    • Look at the water and drain hoses 
    • Check the door gaskets
    • Check the float, heating element and blower diffuser, and the seals for the main tub

    If the machines cycle does not complete.

    • Look at the timer motor 
    • Check the heating element 
    • Inspect the thermostat


    If dishwasher does not work - seems to be totally powered down.

    Check:

    • Are there burns or breaks near the dishwasher wiring.
    • Inspect the door latch 
    • You can test the motor 
    • Look at the door switch
    • Check out the timer motor 
    • You can test the selector switch 
    • You can test the motor start relay
    • First place to look is for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker  
    • Look to see if the dishwasher is plugged in
